In the latest American Farmland Trust newsletter, there’s an article about Foothills Connect linking the 6,000 small farms in Rutherford County, NC boasts that are finding ways to stay in business. An encouraging number of “new farmers” are turning back to their agricultural roots. Some credit for the regions success in keeping small farms viable is due to the nonprofit organization, Foothills Connect, which is bringing broadband wireless into the community. Tim Wills, executive director, is helping to fill in the gaps for farmers by making it easier for them to connect with consumers. The Foothills Connect developed the Farmers Fresh Market website as a way to connect chefs in nearby Charlotte with fresh food.
