A friend of my daughter’s who is going to college in California visited during the holidays. I asked Danielle about the next big thing headed our way from the west coast. She said the craze at her college was fro-yo, which she explained was great tasting, healthy frozen yogurt.
The News and Observer’s Sue Stock reports that a Freshberry Frozen Yogurt Cafe will open in the spring in Six Forks Station at 8711 Six Forks Road. John and Linda Lenzmeier are bringing the franchise to the Triangle. The menu includes frozen yogurt, smoothies and pops.
The idea for Freshberry came from Carolyn Archer in late 2006 when she approached David and Camille Rutkauskas about slowly working some cool, healthy desserts into the menu of their Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe chain. Archer was thinking small – just a tiny piece of the couple’s hugely successful enterprise. Although she is company senior vice president and Camille’s sister, Archer was stunned when they decided to trademark the FreshBerry yogurt and open an entire store around it.
The Tulsa-based franchise has sites in Oklahoma, Texas and Nevada. The closest to us is in Charleston, SC. Others are opening across the country. A franchise is also planned for Charlotte.
