Hearty Winter Stews with Chef Sheri Castle

Join us for an entertaining evening as Chef Sheri instructs us on some easy to prepare, yet guaranteed to satisfy and impress, recipes for hearty winter stews with a unique twist! Plus, a pot of hearty homemade stew is a penny-wise way to feed a family or a crowd, with leftovers to enjoy.  Sheri will share delicious recipes for both meat and vegetarian stews that your family will love. What a delightful way to warm up a chilly winter day or night, and enjoy a fulfilling meal with plenty of leftovers that only get better the next day!

Healthy Eating for Kids

Feeding your child can be one of the most confusing parts of your job as a parent.  Come learn about best nutrition practices for children from Registered Dietitians from the Raleigh Dietetic Association.  We will cover topics such as age appropriate portion sizes and nutrients, packing a healthy school lunch, dealing with a picky eater, and creative healthy recipes for your kids. Take advantage of a great opportunity to hear from dietitians, including Danielle Braxton (MPH, RD, LDN), Rebecca Houseal (MS, RD, LDN), Sarah Alston Southerland, and Katherine Andrew (MPH, RD, LDN).  We will also get to sample a tasty recipe that your kids will love, even though it’s healthy!

The $5 Class Fee will be donated to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (, for its nutrition and community garden programs.

Shopping and Cooking Tune Up, with Linda Watson of Cook For Good

Vowed to save money and time this year? Resolved to cut back on processed foods and start really cooking again? Join us for this fun, interactive workshop and learn key skills for success from Linda Watson, chief cook and researcher for Cook for Good. We’ll take a tour of some top Whole Foods Market bargains in the produce, bulk foods, and spice sections. Linda will share great tips and show us how to use tools and planning to cook better and faster. Find out about foods that cook while you sleep. Get ideas for planning meals, cooking ahead, shopping with the seasons, storing food, and reducing dishwashing. We will get to sample some favorite Cook for Good recipes mid-afternoon, such as potato peanut curry and chocolate pumpkin snack cake, and we’ll take home recipes, a few ingredients, and handouts to give your year a delicious, thrifty start.
