Crooks Corner offers winter menu

At Crooks’ Corner in Chapel Hill, they’re talking about Fried Oysters, Cheese Pork and Beef Stew.

Gene Hamer says winter brings comfort food: Fried Oysters and Shrimp and Grits.

The menu now includes Cheese Pork, a Bill Smith classic, inspired by his time spent in Switzerland. It’s delicious and kind of like a schnitzel: two crispy, cheese-laced cutlets are covered with a generous pour of Madeira Sauce. Served with buttery mashed rutabagas and sautéed leeks and cabbage.

Another addition to the menu is a stew, inspired by the Julia Child movie. “It’s great.. a hearty Beef Stew with winter vegetables, meaning pearl onions, carrots and potatoes, and flavored with red wine and brandy,” says Bill Smith.

Ask for the Persimmon Pudding or Pineapple Upside-Down Cake.

For the holidays, the restaurant will be closed after Brunch on the 20th and reopen Saturday the 26th at 5:30 for dinner. They are closed Friday, New Year’s Day.
