BBQ in New York

July 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We traveled to New York for a wedding recently. We were staying just outside of Rochester and I gathered a group of folks who wanted to head downtown and try out the BBQ restaurant ABC’s Good Morning America had claimed was one of the nation’s best.

We went to Dinosaur BBQ. I was very impressed.

We arrived a little after lunch time on a Friday and the place was very busy. We had a short wait, time enough to admire the food being taken into the dining room and look over the menu.

Lisa the waitress was great. She took the time to go over the menu and answer questions for us. She was always there when we needed anything.

I ordered the Big Ass Pork Plate. It was pork shoulder smoked low and slow, hand pulled and piled high. The portion was large. It tasted great, smoky and moist without being greasy. The meal came with two sides you select from a menu of 18. I picked cole slaw and BBQ beans. Both were good.

Others in the group ate the brisket and ribs. They raved about them and couldn’t finish the ribs. The guys really like the mac and cheese. The Manhattan Chowder, the soup of the day, was only so-so.

The food and service were great. We got Lisa to autograph our menus. We all left happy. If you like southern pulled pork BBQ, you can find it in Rochester, NY.
